The Unborn

If we are for love, justice, peace and life with all who walk, breathe and live on this planet, then we must remain committed to standing up for those who are in the womb as well.

A Conversation Decades Old

The conversation on the unborn and abortion is decades, if not a century, old. But as Christianity goes in and out of post-modern and emergent church conversations and talks of justice on the earth, we cannot forget the injustice of abortion, even if it sounds like a noisy gong or a broken record for the "religious right".

Justice is justice. And injustice is injustice. And this is a call to live a life revolting towards justice that is balanced and holistic. We pursue a life of justice where is is just as important to champion creation care, non-violence, poverty and AIDS as it is to remember to champion the unborn who are also our future dreamers, future dreamers and future movers and shakers.

God Knows Us Through and Through

"You knit me in my mother’s womb ...nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret"
Psalm 139:13,15

You don't need to be a Christian for a long time to know that God intentionally sent His son Jesus to earth because He loves us (John 3). He knows us inside and out, created us in His image and has a plan for our lives, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Living A Life In Honor of Those Unborn

God takes into the account the plans of those who never made it into the world, but He also has entrusted us to not only be champions of life, but also live our lives in honor of those who are unborn. We, the living, are the carriers of the future, entrusted to create a better tomorrow where love and justice prevail. We are the carries of the hopes and dreams of the little ones who were never given the opportunity. We choose to live our lives to the full by honoring those who never had their chance, because Heaven is waiting on us to partner with Jesus to bring about the restoration of all things on this earth (Isaiah 65:17, Matthew 19:28, Acts 3:20-21, Revelation 21:5).

Calling All Mothers and Fathers

We all can be mothers and fathers to men and women who find themselves pregnant out of wedlock or in dire circumstances. This is our call to love and embrace those who find no other option but abortion.

But this isn't about waiting for abortion to cease just because the "law of the land" tells us so. Rather, the Bride of Christ of us in the Church needs to open our hearts and our doors to these pregnant mothers who feel they have no other option, but to abort their child.

Thankfully and gratefully, an adoption movement is on the rise within the Church, but it still has a long way to go. We need to pray for abortion to end, but in the meantime–even if abortion rights were never, ever overturned–we still need to live a life that embraces mother and child and gives them a place of safety and community that invites them to the decision to carry the child to term.
